Vice President, Federal Policy

Role and Responsibilities
AEE’s core mission is to influence public policy, foster advanced energy innovation and business growth, and provide a unified voice for a strong U.S. advanced energy industry. The long-term objective of our federal policy efforts is to change the public narrative to recognize the value of advanced energy and to ensure that AEE’s voice is part of any pragmatic conversation about our energy future.
As head of AEE’s federal policy efforts, you will be responsible for crafting our strategic vision, lobbying Congress and the Administration, and building and maintaining relationships with business leaders and trade associations. You will be required to coordinate efforts with numerous team members working on broad initiatives, including communications, state and local policy, and network development. You will also need to build and direct a political action committee for AEE. In performing these tasks, you will oversee staff and consultants working on the execution of these efforts, manage program goals and budgets, and strengthen relationships with program stakeholders, including AEE’s members. You will report to AEE’s Senior Vice President for Policy and Government Affairs, in Washington, DC.
Qualifications
Required
-
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline
-
5+ years of experience on Capitol Hill and/or in federal government affairs
-
Willingness to register as lobbyist
-
Credibility to represent the advanced energy industry in a bipartisan manner
-
Ability to work well under pressure and with minimal supervision, to analyze situations accurately, and to recommend and take effective courses of action.
-
Wide professional network on Capitol Hill and in energy sector
-
Outstanding organizational and communication skills
-
Track record of high achievement and demonstrated work ethic
Desirable
-
Relevant advanced degree (Public Policy, Law, Business, Economics); Statistics/Mathematics, Science, Engineering advanced degrees are also a plus if related to energy

Experience working in a multi-stakeholder environment
-
Experience organizing member/stakeholder fly-ins to DC and other similar events
-
Direct experience interacting with industry and government leaders

Experience managing a political action committee

Political fundraising experience

Description

Design and produce online and print projects of various levels of complexity within a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
-
Projects include corporate identity work, marketing collateral, website design, online marketing, infographics and design of conference displays and materials.
Experience
-
Prefer 3 to 5 years of professional design experience working in a design firm or corporate environment. Design degree preferred (BFA/MFA in design, formal training in typography, identity design, interactive design, information design, or other creative disciplines).

Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Quark XPress or Adobe InDesign.
-
A strong design eye for typography, color and layout and ability to innovate on established branding.
-
Web-based design experience is a must, as is a solid understanding of HTML 5/CSS and design capabilities across multiple platforms and Web browsers.
Ability to:

Understand the design issues and objectives of a project, and come up with a creative vision that meets those requirements in a clean, user-friendly way that is visually appealing and strong in design excellence.

Work with a team of content providers, developers, and other internal and external customers in a fast-paced deadline-oriented environment.

Communicate clearly with other members of the team, both internal and external, and work on multiple projects under light supervision.

Respond to constructive feedback from others, and be able to provide constructive criticism and feedback on others’ work.
Additional Desirable Qualifications

Substantial experience with HTML 5 hand-coding

Experience with Ruby on Rails

Knowledge of user-interface and information architecture principles

Experience working with a geographically dispersed team
