SolarCity to build utility-scale solar farm on Kauai

The Business Journals // Oct 23, 2012

Kauai Island Utility Cooperative and SolarCity have partnered to build a 12 megawatt solar farm on Hawaii's Garden Isle. Construction is set to begin in the summer of 2013 with the power going online by the end of 2014. The system is expected to provide for approximately six percent of Kauai's daily energy needs. Pacific Business News reports:

“This is a huge step toward achieving our goal of using renewable resources to generate at least half of our power needs by 2023,” Teofilo “Phil” Tacbian, chairman of the board of directors of KIUC, said in a statement. “Using the power of the sun instead of fossil fuel will annually replace about 1.7 million gallons of imported oil.”
