Southern Co. buys solar project in Nevada

Bloomberg // Oct 09, 2012

Georgia-based Southern Co. has purchased Spectrum Solar, a 30 megawatt project near Las Vegas, Nevada. Southern Co. partnered with Turner Renewables to buy the project from MEMC Electric Materials, Inc. This is not the first time Southern Co. and Turner have partnered on advanced energy projects: the pair previously bought another solar project in Nevada and one in New Mexico. Bloomberg reports:

MEMC’s SunEdison unit will begin construction on the Spectrum plant in October and is expected to finish in the second quarter, according to the statement. NV Energy Inc. will buy Spectrum’s electricity under a 25-year agreement.

Additionally, Southern Co.'s subsidiary Alabama Power just announced a major wind power agreement. Read more about that deal here.
