Ohioans Believe Advanced Energy Technologies are Critical for Economic Survival

Cleveland Plain Dealer // Jun 27, 2012

The Plain Dealer reports on the results of a survey of Ohio residents on the importance of advanced energy technologies to the state's economic future. The survey was paid for by the Advanced Energy Economy and AEE Ohio. A major finding of the survey shows that eight out of 10 Ohio residents believe that the development of advanced energy technologies - which includes such technologies as hybrid cars, efficient buildings, and wind, solar and nuclear energy - are important to the state's economic future, and a majority of the state's residents think that Ohio's political leaders should further the development of these technologies. The poll was conducted last week by John Zogby's JZ Analytics and has a margin of error of 3.8 percent. Additional findings in the poll were also covered by the Plain Dealer:

"The survey also showed that:

  • Nearly 60 percent of Ohioans think gasoline will cost at least $5 or more a gallon during the coming five years, and that 80 percent think the nation's dependence on foreign oil is a major problem or already a crisis.

  • About half of Ohioans think the nation's system of generating and distributing electricity is facing a major crisis because of its cost and because of its impact on public health and the environment.

  • Just over half of the state's residents think efforts to use energy-saving technologies in lighting and appliances create American jobs.

  • About 56 percent think switching to energy efficient technologies at home, the office or shop floor not only saves money but also makes the U.S. economy more productive and more competitive.

  • Support for advanced energy technologies is not effected by political affiliation. The poll found that 76 percent of Republicans, 89 percent of Democrats and 81 percent of independents think advanced energy is very important or somewhat important.."
