Business Group Applauds Unanimous Pennsylvania Senate Committee Passage of Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Bill

SB 435 encourages deployment of electric vehicles, sets up processes for charging infrastructure development and utility EV programs.

HARRISBURG, March 23, 2021 – Today, national business organization Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) applauded the State Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee's unanimous passage of SB 435*, the Pennsylvania Clean Transportation Infrastructure Act.

The bipartisan bill sets a 2030 goal for electric vehicle (EV) deployment in the state that is 50% higher than current market forecasts, establishes a system for determining the charging infrastructure required to support those goals, and lays out a process for utility EV programs to be evaluated by the Public Utility Commission.

"Senate Bill 435 removes significant hurdles to growth across the state's burgeoning electric vehicle supply chain and puts Pennsylvania in a position to benefit from the rapidly growing electric vehicle market," said Daniel Bloom, principal at AEE. "It is a comprehensive plan that will drive private investment into the Commonwealth, lower electricity bills for both rural and urban ratepayers, and increase utilization of the state’s already diverse mix of energy resources.”

"We congratulate Senator Mensch and Chairman Tomlinson for their leadership on the bill, and we look forward to working with them to see it advanced by the full Senate," added Bloom.
