WASHINGTON, November 15, 2021 – National business group Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) congratulated President Biden today for signing the historic Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and released a toolkit for state implementation of the advanced energy programs in the bill. AEE also continued to urge Congress to pass the Build Back Better Act to fully unlock the potential of these historic energy investments.
Leah Rubin Shen, federal policy director at the national business association Advanced Energy Economy, released the following statement:
“America’s electric grid needs to be upgraded if it is going to meet its clean energy goals as well as the demands of a changing climate, and this infrastructure bill will go a long way towards funding the critical buildout of transmission lines. It also makes investments in programs that will save energy and better manage the flow of electricity on the grid, making our grid more resilient and reliable.”
“The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act also invests in programs that will help the country continue to electrify its transportation systems, including charging infrastructure, electric school buses, and transit fleets. States around the country are planning charging networks, electrifying fleets, and working to get more of their residents into electric vehicles. This funding will support activities already taking place in states from Florida to Illinois to Colorado.”
“While this bill is an excellent start, additional investments in clean transportation, clean electricity, domestic manufacturing, energy efficiency, and grid resilience are all vital for supporting the U.S.’ transition to 100% clean energy, and that’s why it’s vital that Congress finish its job by passing the Build Back Better Act. In particular, new refundable tax credits would allow companies and job providers to move faster on developing clean energy projects, accelerating America’s energy transition.”
AEE is delivering roadmaps for state decision-makers with guidance on how to implement new federal funding from the IIJA, and will be working with state and federal policymakers to bring clean energy benefits to communities across America.
