Accountant

Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) is seeking a staff accountant to join our finance and accounting team on a full-time basis. The ideal candidate will have accounting experience, preferably in a small to mid-size non-profit organization. Must be an organized self-starter who has had responsibility for a wide variety of accounting functions. Must also be a team-player who can work well with others inside the organization, and communicate effectively with member and donor organizations as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Manage member invoicing and collections in a timely fashion; reconcile accounting records to Salesforce
  • Use our accounts payable system to properly code vendor invoices and ensure that proper accounting protocol and backup documents are in place
  • Manage backup and reconciliation of corporate credit card; ensure receipt of adequate backup and proper general ledger coding
  • Assist the Senior Finance Manager with grant reporting and grant setup. Requires frequent interaction with internal grant administrator to ensure the capture of all relevant spending.
  • Assist with monthly close process, including journal preparation for prepaids and accruals.
  • Assist with monthly balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations for eight bank accounts.
  • Works with the Senior Finance Manager to maintain all accounting systems, including Chart of Accounts
  • Assist the Senior Finance Manager with the annual audit process and backup files.
  • Assist the Senior Finance Manager and Senior Vice President, Administration with the annual tax preparation process and backup files.
  • Work with the Senior Finance Manager to improve accounting policies and procedures and to speed up the month-end and year-end close process
  • Assist in other general accounting functions and reconciliations as needed

Required Qualifications

  • 3 years experience as an Accountant with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Prior accounting experience in a nonprofit or trade association environment
  • Knowledge of and experience working with US GAAP
  • Proficiency with accounting software and other supporting software (Intacct, Bill.com, and Expensify experience preferred)
  • High degree of proficiency with Excel and use of its advanced forumlas and functions (e.g. Pivot Tables,VLOOKUP, etc.)
  • Excellent writing / verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality
  • Positive attitude, and ability and willingness to work with a variety of people
  • Interest in working in a mission-driven environment

Highly Desirable

  • Basic knowledge of the energy industry and/or government affairs

Sales Account Executive

Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) is seeking an experienced sales professional to join our membership sales team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of exceeding quota and developing customer accounts in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. Must be a self-starter with exceptional networking and customer acquisition skills who knows how to close deals. Must also be able to collaborate effectively with a cross-functional team and to build effective long-term customer relationships. Our team offers flexible telecommuting/remote options, but we would prefer candidates in the greater Washington D.C. or greater Boston areas.

Responsibilities

  • Become an expert in the value, benefits, and features of all forms of AEE membership
  • Research and source leads for outbound campaigns
  • Build and maintain a strong opportunity pipeline to consistently meet or exceed quota
  • Work with AEE’s broader Membership and Corporate Development team to improve both our inbound and outbound lead qualification and sales process
  • Leverage AEE’s broader team of policy initiative leads as subject matter experts for conveying our membership value proposition to prospects
  • Define success criteria and value propositions with each customer
  • Negotiate and close new sales for opportunities ranging in size from $5K to $70K
  • Create groundswell and drive cross-sell and upsell opportunities
  • Use a data driven approach to identify inefficiencies and continuously improve our sales process to increase conversion rates, average deal size and reduce sales cycle time

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years as a Sales Account Executive with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Experience developing and maintaining customer relationships in a B2B environment; prior membership sales experience preferred.
  • High proficiency with Salesforce or similar CRM platform
  • Commitment to operating with a sense of urgency and a positive winning attitude
  • Excellent writing / verbal communication skills to interact with prospects / AEE members
  • Have a good understanding of trade associations from a conceptual standpoint and be able to effectively and succinctly communicate this to both inexperienced and experienced audiences
  • Accurate forecasting and pipeline management skills
  • History of being a top producer in previous roles
  • Strong focus on your goals and a belief that your daily, weekly, and monthly activities will help you achieve them
  • Proven consultative selling and closing skills
  • Proficiency Microsoft Office products

Senior Manager/Director, Wholesale Markets

AEE's Wholesale Markets program aims to reduce policy and market rule barriers to entry in the wholesale markets for advanced energy technologies. Our primary focus is currently on engagement with FERC, PJM, and ERCOT, with the potential for geographic expansion in the future. The Senior Manager/Director of Wholesale Markets will lead the day-to-day engagement with PJM and help develop and execute our overall national wholesale markets strategy and report to the Wholesale Markets program lead, Jeff Dennis, General Counsel for Regulatory Affairs for AEE.

  • Direct and carry out AEE’s PJM engagement, including developing strategies to expand advanced energy in PJM, actively participating in the stakeholder process, and mobilizing AEE member engagement.
  • Draft legal and technical comments for submission to FERC, PJM, and ERCOT. This will include close engagement with member companies to develop positions that reflect the broad diversity of the advanced energy technology spectrum and AEE’s membership
  • Coordinate engagement with AEE’s members, including organizing AEE’s monthly Wholesale Markets member call and guiding the comment review process with members.
  • Coordinate with other trade associations and organizations on comments in proceedings and on day-to-day activities.
  • Manage external consultants (technical, economic, legal).
  • Stay abreast of key developments across all RTOs/ISOs.
  • Potential for thought leadership work and participation on panels at conferences and convenings.
  • Coordinate with corporate development and strategic partnership teams to broaden AEE’s membership and fundraising efforts

Required Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Strong understanding of energy policy with at least one year of exposure to wholesale energy markets and/or FERC. Additional experience in wholesale markets a plus.
  • Experience in trade association work and member management a plus.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to distill complicated concepts in a clear and concise manner in comments, pleadings, presentations, blog posts, etc.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed

Transportation Associate

AEE seeks a smart, innovative Transportation Associate on a one-year contract basis to join AEE’s Advanced Transportation program, which is focused on advancing transportation electrification policy around the country. The Transportation Associate will further AEE’s mission by supporting AEE’s growing transportation program and its state policy work, which includes regulatory and legislative education efforts. Working in daily collaboration with the Vice President leading the Advanced Transportation program, the Transportation Associate will help draft regulatory filings, contribute to documents supporting legislative developments, support the 20-company working group that guides the program, and track policy developments across the states. The Transportation Associate will work collaboratively with members of the AEE’s policy and communications teams as well as AEE’s external partners.

  • Help draft regulatory filings for state utility commissions based on AEE’s extensive body of work as well as input from AEE’s staff, members, and partners.
  • Support the development of documents (e.g., bill summaries), in support of legislative educational efforts in coordination with AEE staff, members, and partners.
  • Help organize the monthly working group calls for the Advanced Transportation program.
  • Track policy developments as they unfold in state executive agencies and legislatures for the AEE team and its membership.
  • Work with the Advanced Transportation program lead, other AEE staff, members, and partners on goal-setting, strategy and implementation to meet short and long-term policy objectives.
  • Participate in legislative, rule-making, and administrative processes as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with AEE staff, members, partners as well as key legislative and administrative staff.
  • Work with communications staff to identify and seize opportunities to showcase stories and evidence of electric vehicles taking hold in the states.
  • Travel on an as needed basis to targeted states for meetings with key policymakers, allies, and stakeholders, communications outreach, and other efforts on behalf of AEE.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Public Policy or Communications preferred; Science and Engineering Degrees are also appropriate if the candidate has strong writing abilities
  • One to three years of professional experience in transportation/energy policy development or advocacy
  • Ideally, an interest in transportation/energy issues and an understanding of the importance of education and advocacy in improving policy
  • Entrepreneurial approach, flexible attitude, and ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Intellectual curiosity, inquisitive nature, and excellent listening and problem-solving skills
  • Performance-oriented individual with a strong work ethic, demonstrated initiative and commitment to achieving goals
  • Must be willing to travel
