Executive Director, Virginia Advanced Economy

The Virginia Advanced Energy Economy (VA-AEE) includes local and national advanced energy companies working to make Virginia's energy system more secure, clean, and affordable. Advanced energy encompasses a broad range of products and services that constitute the best available technologies for meeting energy needs today and tomorrow. Among these are energy efficiency, demand response, solar, wind, hydro, electric vehicles, biofuels and smart grid technologies. The industry currently employs more than 78,000 Virginians and is among the fastest growing sectors of the Commonwealth's economy.

VA-AEE's mission is to raise awareness among policymakers and the general public about the opportunity offered by all forms of advanced energy for cost savings, electric system reliability and resiliency, and economic growth in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

VA-AEE is a project of Advanced Energy Economy, a 501(c)(6) business association.

The ideal candidate doesn't need to have a background in politics but does need to know how it works and be willing to insert the industry into the politics of the policy-making process.

Responsibilities

  • Working with VA-AEE business members, develop a policy platform centered around pro- advanced energy legislation and regulations. Develop and execute activities to advance VA-AEE's policy platform, including direct policy advocacy.

  • Lead all communications-oriented activities related to VA-AEE, including earned media, op-eds, editorial board meetings, etc.
  • Actively recruit new members to join VA-AEE and to participate in its advanced energy industry policy advocacy efforts.
  • Support efforts to develop and execute fundraising plans targeting private foundations and high net worth individuals to support VA-AEE activities.
