Position Description

Advanced Energy Economy, Inc (“AEE”) is currently seeking a college graduate with strong analytical skills, excellent communications skills, and interest or experience in policy advocacy for an entry-level Associate position, with a strong preference for the candidate to be located in our Washington D.C. office. The Associate will work with other AEE team members to implement multi-year strategies and campaigns designed to achieve policy successes at the state and federal level that will expand markets for the advanced energy technology industry.

This work will involve supporting a variety of priority initiatives and campaigns across the organization, including collaborative engagement with our member companies and major utilities around helping them achieve 100% clean energy, policy education and analysis to enact pro-advanced energy legislation and regulation, and educating decision-makers in key states about advanced energy. The Associate will also help AEE track policy developments around the country, and quantitatively analyze and communicate the market value of various policy opportunities to AEE members and other stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with an interest in policy, energy markets, and advanced energy technology, and will have a balanced skill set that includes both comfort with quantitative analysis and strong communications skills.  Candidates should be creative and flexible, with the ability to move between projects as needed to support AEE’s work in a wide variety of areas. Candidates will need to have the ability to travel to meet with AEE members, coalition allies, and targeted public officials.

Responsibilities

  • Support professional services team members at AEE in executing priority projects as needed.
  • Support professional services team at AEE in other policy areas, from electrifying transportation to reforming the utility business model, as needed.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research and analysis in support of AEE’s legislative and regulatory efforts along with written, visual, and verbal summaries of the work.
  • Help professional service and market intelligence teams at AEE track and analyze legislative and regulatory policy developments around the country, providing intelligence and insights using AEE’s PowerSuite platform.
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with AEE staff, members, partners as well as key legislative and administrative staff.
  • Work with communications staff to identify and seize opportunities to showcase stories and evidence of advanced energy technology and business success.
  • Work with AEE’s communications team to identify opportunities for AEE to seek earned media coverage, including earned media, op-eds, editorial board meetings, etc, in key media outlets.
  • Assist in analyzing and communicating the market value for advanced energy businesses of various core policy efforts and policy campaigns.
  • Coordinate/lead efforts with coalition allies in support of advanced energy technologies and services.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience with the advanced energy industry is a plus.
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit; candidates must be very comfortable working in an environment with remote colleagues, creating new projects, building their own calendar, and delivering on high expectations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required; candidates must be able to successfully develop and maintain productive relationships with members, industry stakeholders, policymakers, and other key contacts.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, required—inclusive of public speaking.
  • Intellectual curiosity, inquisitive nature, and excellent listening and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in advancing a policy agenda and/or working with business leaders is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Sales Development Representative

Position Description

Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) is seeking an experienced Sales Development Representative (“SDR”) to join our membership sales team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of exceeding quota in lead generation, both in calls and emails, while working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.  The candidate must be a self-starter with exceptional networking and customer engagement skills who knows how to identify and qualify potential leads. The SDR must also be able to collaborate effectively with a cross-functional team and to build effective long-term customer relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Become an expert in the value, benefits, and features of AEE membership
  • Research and source leads for outbound campaigns
  • Build and maintain a strong opportunity pipeline to consistently meet or exceed quota
  • Work with AEE’s broader Membership and Corporate Development team to improve outbound lead qualification and sales process
  • Leverage AEE’s broader team of policy initiative leads as subject matter experts for conveying our membership value proposition to prospects
  • Define success criteria and value propositions with each customer

Qualifications

  • 2+ years sales development experience with a bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Keen attention to detail, self-motivated and able to seek out leads on a daily basis that fit our customer profile
  • Willingness to quickly learn AEE’s value and business model. Then, identify companies/individuals that would benefit from our services and to be able to articulate those points through email and/or phone calls
  • Consistent communication and coordination with Corporate Development team via tools such as Salesforce, project management tracking tools and virtual meetings/communication platforms.
  • Experience effectively providing a strong value proposition with cold outreach focused on building a pipeline with outbound campaigns
  • High proficiency with Salesforce or similar CRM platform
  • Commitment to operating with a sense of urgency and a positive winning attitude
  • Have a good understanding of trade associations and be able to effectively and succinctly communicate this to both inexperienced and experienced audiences
  • Accurate forecasting and pipeline management skills
  • History of being a top producer in previous roles
  • Strong focus on your goals and a belief that your daily, weekly, and monthly activities will help you achieve them
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Basic knowledge of the energy and/or government affairs industry, preferred

Position Description

Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) is seeking an experienced executive to join our sales and marketing team to lead corporate development among members companies, which provides a value-add service to members that contributes to member retention and up-sales with AEE, by:

  • Developing trusted relationships with commercial leaders at member companies, include business unit, corporate/business development, and product management/marketing leaders, among others;

Deeply understand their strategy as well as economic priorities to identify: a) commercial opportunities between/among member companies; b) policy/political opportunities for AEE to pursue on members’ behalf; and c) member companies' potential connection to AEE's campaigns and to articulate the business value of their participation. 

  • Presenting the commercial opportunities to members and facilitating pursuit of opportunities, providing a business development and networking service to members.

Successful candidates must be:

  • A self-starter with exceptional networking and customer acquisition skills who is a strategic and economic business thinker, and who is comfortable working with business leaders to establish relationships and close deals; and
  • Able to collaborate effectively with a cross-functional team and to build effective long-term customer relationships.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication and presentation skills

  • Decade of experience in strategic consulting or finance with a specific emphasis on covering clients in addition to providing services and solutions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Advanced degree (Masters or higher) in business, policy, economics, political science, or a similar discipline, preferred
  • Experience in energy, non-profit advocacy, and the clean economy are preferred
