Accountant

Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) is seeking a staff accountant to join our finance and accounting team on a full-time basis. The ideal candidate will have accounting experience, preferably in a small to mid-size non-profit organization. Must be an organized self-starter who has had responsibility for a wide variety of accounting functions. Must also be a team-player who can work well with others inside the organization, and communicate effectively with member and donor organizations as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Manage member invoicing and collections in a timely fashion; reconcile accounting records to Salesforce
  • Use our accounts payable system to properly code vendor invoices and ensure that proper accounting protocol and backup documents are in place
  • Manage backup and reconciliation of corporate credit card; ensure receipt of adequate backup and proper general ledger coding
  • Assist the Senior Finance Manager with grant reporting and grant setup. Requires frequent interaction with internal grant administrator to ensure the capture of all relevant spending.
  • Assist with monthly close process, including journal preparation for prepaids and accruals.
  • Assist with monthly balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations for eight bank accounts.
  • Works with the Senior Finance Manager to maintain all accounting systems, including Chart of Accounts
  • Assist the Senior Finance Manager with the annual audit process and backup files.
  • Assist the Senior Finance Manager and Senior Vice President, Administration with the annual tax preparation process and backup files.
  • Work with the Senior Finance Manager to improve accounting policies and procedures and to speed up the month-end and year-end close process
  • Assist in other general accounting functions and reconciliations as needed

Required Qualifications

  • 3 years experience as an Accountant with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Prior accounting experience in a nonprofit or trade association environment
  • Knowledge of and experience working with US GAAP
  • Proficiency with accounting software and other supporting software (Intacct, Bill.com, and Expensify experience preferred)
  • High degree of proficiency with Excel and use of its advanced forumlas and functions (e.g. Pivot Tables,VLOOKUP, etc.)
  • Excellent writing / verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality
  • Positive attitude, and ability and willingness to work with a variety of people
  • Interest in working in a mission-driven environment

Highly Desirable

  • Basic knowledge of the energy industry and/or government affairs

Sales Development Representative 

Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) is seeking an experienced Sales Development Representative to join our membership sales team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of exceeding quota in lead generation, both in calls and emails, while working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. Must be a self-starter with exceptional networking and customer engagement skills who knows how to identify and qualify potential leads. Must also be able to collaborate effectively with a cross-functional team and to build effective long-term customer relationships. Our team offers flexible telecommuting/remote options.

  • Become an expert in the value, benefits, and features of all forms of AEE membership
  • Research and source leads for outbound campaigns
  • Build and maintain a strong opportunity pipeline to consistently meet or exceed quota
  • Work with AEE’s broader Membership and Corporate Development team to improve outbound lead qualification and sales process
  • Leverage AEE’s broader team of policy initiative leads as subject matter experts for conveying our membership value proposition to prospects
  • Define success criteria and value propositions with each customer
  • Use a data driven approach to identify inefficiencies and continuously improve our sales process to increase conversion rates, increase the volume of leads and increase product demo and membership sales appointments.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years as a Sales Development Representative with a bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Strong focus on detail, extremely self driven and able to seek out leads on a daily basis that fit our customer profile. This requires the candidate to understand AEE’s value and business model, identify companies/individuals that would benefit from our services and to be able to articulate those points through email and/or phone calls
  • Consistent communication and coordination with Corporate Development team via tools such as Salesforce, project management tracking tools and virtual meetings/communication
  • Experience effectively providing a strong value proposition with cold outreach focused on building a pipeline with outbound campaigns.
  • High proficiency with Salesforce or similar CRM platform
  • Commitment to operating with a sense of urgency and a positive winning attitude
  • Have a good understanding of trade associations from a conceptual standpoint and be able to effectively and succinctly communicate this to both inexperienced and experienced audiences
  • Accurate forecasting and pipeline management skills
  • History of being a top producer in previous roles
  • Strong focus on your goals and a belief that your daily, weekly, and monthly activities will help you achieve them
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products

Associate (Sales, Marketing, and Strategic Partnerships)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and write customized grant proposals and reports for foundations and major donors;

  • Edit and proofread grant proposals and reports to correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax, and to improve clarity and readability;

  • Manage a calendar of deadlines for proposals, reports, and other fundraising deliverables;

  • Coordinate grant proposal submittals across a multi-disciplinary team;

  • Develop outreach communications including regular updates, gift acknowledgements, appeal letters, sales outreach, etc.;

  • Research new potential sources of revenue, including corporations, major donors, and foundations;

  • Create research and meeting briefings – including corporate, foundation, and individual –  for staff, senior leadership, and board members;

  • Ensure Salesforce and other systems are updated regularly across all revenue streams;

Required Qualifications

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills required, including strength in persuasive writing, editing, and presentation design;

  • 1-3 years of professional experience in a nonprofit development role, preferably in an energy or environmental setting;

  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to collaborate with staff across multiple program areas to obtain content, information, and resources;

  • Prior experience and proficiency with Salesforce or other CRM highly preferred;

  • Highly organized and detail oriented;

  • Ability to understand and relay complex ideas;

  • Entrepreneurial approach, flexible attitude, and ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment;

  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team in a highly distributed organization;

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Policy Associate

Advanced Energy Economy, Inc (“AEE”) is currently seeking a college graduate with strong quantitative/analytical skills, excellent communications skills, and interest or experience in policy advocacy for an entry-level Associate position, with a strong preference for the candidate to be located in our Washington D.C. office. The Associate will work with other AEE team members to implement multi-year strategies and campaigns designed to achieve policy successes at the state and federal level that will expand markets for the advanced energy technology industry. This work will involve supporting a variety of priority initiatives and campaigns across the organization, including but not limited to policy initiatives and campaigns designed to enact pro-advanced energy legislation and regulations in states and to remove barriers to the expansion of advanced energy technology in wholesale power markets. The Associate will also help AEE track policy developments around the country, quantitatively analyze and communicate the market value of various policy opportunities to AEE members and other stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with an interest in policy, energy markets, and advanced energy technology, and will have a balanced skill set that includes both comfort with quantitative analysis and strong communications skills. Candidates should be creative and flexible, with the ability to move between projects as needed to support AEE’s work in a wide variety of areas. Candidates will need to have the ability to travel to meet with AEE members, coalition allies, and targeted public officials.

  • Support professional services team members at AEE in executing priority projects as needed, particularly in the areas of wholesale market design and regulation as well as Texas advanced energy regulation and legislation.

  • Support professional services team at AEE in other policy areas, from electrifying transportation to reforming the utility business model, as needed.

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research and analysis to support AEE’s legislative and regulatory efforts along with written, visual, and verbal summaries of the work.

  • Help professional service and market intelligence teams at AEE track and analyze legislative and regulatory policy developments around the country.

  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with AEE staff, members, partners as well as key legislative and administrative staff.

  • Work with communications staff to identify and seize opportunities to showcase stories and evidence of advanced energy technology and business success.

  • Assist in analyzing and communicating the market value for advanced energy businesses of various core policy efforts and policy campaigns.

  • Help AEE track financial community views regarding the advanced energy industry and build relationships with financial analysts, banks and credit rating agencies, and other key finance community players, as well as key AEE member company personnel engaged in project development and financing.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in finance/business, but will consider economics or public policy.

  • Experience with the advanced energy industry is a plus. 

  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit; candidates must be very comfortable working in an environment with remote colleagues, creating new projects, building their own calendar, and delivering on high expectations.

  • Excellent analytical skills with demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Excel to perform quantitative tasks. Modeling experience is a plus.

  • Strong interpersonal skills required; candidates must be able to successfully develop and maintain productive relationships with members, industry stakeholders, policymakers, and other key contacts.

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, required—inclusive of public speaking.

  • Intellectual curiosity, inquisitive nature, and excellent listening and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience in advancing a policy agenda and/or working with business leaders is a plus.

  • Willingness to travel as needed
