AEE Working Groups

The Electrifying Transportation Working Group focuses on activities to accelerate EV deployment in specific states by tackling policies that reduce the upfront cost of the vehicle, accelerate charging infrastructure deployment, modernize utility regulations to integrate EVs, and address the specific challenges facing medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.

The Expanding Wholesale Markets Working Group works to eliminate barriers to the participation of advanced energy technologies in competitive wholesale markets. This work includes, but is not limited to, reforming legacy FERC or ISO/RTO market rules and operating practices that restrict or limit the ability of advanced energy technologies to participate in the markets, pursuing new market designs that better accommodate and take advantage of the unique physical and operational characteristics of advanced energy technologies, and opposing proposals that would unfairly disadvantage advanced energy technologies and/or give undue preference to incumbent technologies.

Through NARUC engagement activities and educational forums, AEE works with members of the Decision-maker Education & Engagement Working Group to coordinate programs and forums that help state utility regulators  better understand advanced energy products, services, and business models. These events include opportunities to educate candidates, commissioners, and staff members about the technologies and opportunities available, the benefits they can provide to customers and the electric power system as a whole, and solve the regulatory challenges in obtaining these benefits.

AEE’s activities to drive technology adoption and market transformation are spread across three separate geographically focused Working Groups: East, West, and Texas. The focus of Driving Technology Adoption & Market Transformation – East is to support, defend, and introduce policies to increase the size and value of markets for advanced energy companies in specific states in the region where AEE has identified opportunities. This work includes reform of utility regulatory and business models as needed to support the use of advanced energy technologies and services by utilities, third-party providers, and customers.
