With a full complement of commissioners, FERC can remove market barriers to advanced energy, integrate distributed and renewable energy, and support new transmission to tap low-cost resources
WASHINGTON, November 16, 2021 – National business group Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) released the following statement regarding the Senate confirmation of Chairman Willie L. Phillips of the Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia to serve on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC):“AEE applauds the U.S. Senate’s vote this evening to confirm Willie Phillips as a Commissioner on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Commissioner Phillips’ broad experience in the industry and his leadership of the District of Columbia Public Service Commission makes him a strong asset to FERC as it tackles critical issues facing the nation’s wholesale electricity markets and transmission systems,” said Jeff Dennis, managing director and general counsel at Advanced Energy Economy. “We look forward to working with Commissioner Phillips to ensure that America’s wholesale electricity markets deliver the benefits of low-cost clean advanced energy resources to consumers, and that transmission planning, cost allocation, and generator interconnection practices ensure that the clean energy resources consumers are demanding can access the transmission grid and markets. Commissioner Phillips’ work to deliver the benefits of clean energy to consumers in the District of Columbia makes him well-positioned to understand the value that open, competitive, and non-discriminatory markets have for scaling clean energy and reducing consumer costs."
